Biography

I began making quilts in South Africa, where I lived till my mid-twenties. I've taught and written about quilting for 30 years and I live in Nova Scotia.

I created “African Threads” because I'm passionate about working directly with stitchery groups in South Africa to create economic empowerment for women artisans. When you purchase their charming fabric art you help to put desperately needed funds into their hands and support their children. 15% of profits from sales of textiles is donated to the Stephen Lewis Foundation and goes back to Africa to support the Grandmothers Campaign - truly a win-win for everyone. Healing also comes, as many of the textiles talk about the HIV/AIDS pandemic that is ravaging their communities and families. The textiles tell stories of the daily lives, traditions and culture of South Africans. Each one of a kind textile is fascinating social record of women's voices stitched in cloth.
